Historical Societies
The Société pour la Sauvegarde du Patrimoine de Pointe-Claire was founded in 2000. It includes 160 members and its mission is to promote Pointe-Claire’s historical, architectural and archaeological heritage. Among its accomplishments are the saving of three heritage houses, the start of archaeological digs on the pointe of Pointe-Claire and the development of educational activities for primary school students. It has also been at the origin of the linking of the local historical societies for the creation of the SDSPOI. Currently, it is working to restore the Pointe-Claire windmill to working order.

Société patrimoine et histoire de l'île Bizard et Sainte-Geneviève was incorporated in 2002. Its mission is to increase awareness among its members and the public in general to the history and heritage of the island as well as preserve and show it to its advantage. Among other accomplishments, it initiated, with the borough of Île-Bizard, the creation of a heritage room and the installation of display cases in the Île-Bizard library. The society has been active in the preservation of the Benjamin Viger manor house. It organizes regular conferences with funding from the borough. In 2003, it organized the celebration of the island’s 325th anniversary. For this occasion, the society produced an exposition: "The Raftsmen’s Era, A 19th Century Epic" that has since travelled to many museums. The exposition material is also available on a compact disc (CD) and a brochure.

The Dorval Historical Society was founded in 1984 and is the dean of the West Island's historical societies. Its mission is to preserve, consolidate, study and promote the history of Dorval (people, monuments, objects, photographs, documents, etc.). It aims to encourage the citizens of Dorval to understand and familiarize themselves with the history of their village and to encourage them to know the roots and traditions of their community. Besides organizing many conferences, it has published a heritage guide trail and installed informative plaques describing houses in the Dorval village.

The Beaurepaire-Beaconsfield Historical Society was founded in 1978 and has become very active in the past two years. It mandate is to identify and protect the heritage of this area and to promote its history.
Most recently, it was instrumental in obtaining a government grant for emergency archaeological work at Baie d'Urfé's Point Caron, the seventeenth century site of the earliest mission in this region. It was mandated by the Borough of Beaconsfield-Baie d'Urfé to document Baie d'Urfé's heritage buildings and has presented its report. It is currently arranging for a collection of watercolour portraits of the heritage homes in Beaconsfield and is working with the Beaconsfield Library to mount a mixed media exhibition during the month of October entitled, "The Romantic Heritage of Beaconsfield - Homes, Games, and People".
