A lovely example of a Québécois-style Neo-Classic stone house, this house reflects the wealth of its owner, a bourgeois farmer. Its façade features a blend of cut stone and fieldstone masonry. After having several owners, it is purchased by Walter Moncrief Stewart in 1923. He named it “Glenaladale” in honour of the Scottish property of his father’s associate, Sir William Macdonald. Edward W. Beatty, President of CPR, lived in the house from 1925 until his death in 1943. Walter Stewart returned to the house and lived in it until 1967. The building then served as Corporate Headquarters of the Macdonald Stewart Foundation for several years.
